ATLANTA – Birmingham-Southern women's soccer student-athlete Blakley Jones (Tuscaloosa, Ala./Holy Spirit Catholic HS) was named the Southern Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
Jones, a sophomore goalkeeper and two-year starter, recorded 25 combined saves in two matches last week against the Mississippi University for Women and conference rival Rhodes, setting a new career high in single-game saves in the process.
She kept a clean sheet in a 3-0 shutout of MUW at home, her second shutout of the season. Jones followed it up with a career-high 20 saves in a tough 2-1 loss at Rhodes. Her previous career high was 12 against Emory on Sept. 17, 2017.
Jones leads the SAA in total saves this season with 55.
Birmingham-Southern will travel to Wesleyan (Ga.) for its next match on Wednesday, Oct. 3.
