ATLANTA – Birmingham-Southern junior goalkeeper Blakley Jones (Tuscaloosa, Ala./Holy Spirit Catholic HS) was tabbed as the Southern Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
Jones recorded 12 saves in two games against Agnes Scott and Hendrix last week. Against the Scotties on Tuesday, Jones recorded five saves and kept a clean sheet in her 78 minutes played, helping the Panthers to a 5-1 win.
She turned around on Saturday and made seven saves in BSC's conference opener at Hendrix. Playing all 110 minutes, five of Jones's seven saves came in the two overtime periods, keeping the Warriors out of the net and sending the Panthers home with the final 1-1 decision.
Jones is tops in the conference in total saves with 53 and fifth in save percentage. This is her first SAA weekly honor of 2019 and the fourth of her career.
Birmingham-Southern will be back on the Hilltop for its next conference matchup against Rhodes on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 2 p.m.
