|Title:||Assistant Women's Soccer Coach|
Former Birmingham-Southern women's soccer standout Linda Amaya was hired as Assistant Coach in July 2013.
Amaya, a native of Hattiesburg, Miss., played for the Panthers from 2008-2011, graduating magna cum laude in 2012 with a degree in psychology and a minor in Spanish. She was a First-Team All-Conference selection her junior and senior seasons (2011 & 2012), and was a four-time member of the SCAC Academic Honor Roll. Amaya was a 2011 All-Region selection by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), and she was a 2010 & 2011 NSCAA All-Region Scholar. She also received the team's Most Valuable Player and Heart and Soul Awards.
"I am thrilled to announce the addition of Linda Amaya to the BSC Women's Soccer program as she takes over the role of assistant coach," Head Coach Emily Pitek Clifford said. "Linda had a stellar career here on the Hilltop, both in the classroom and on the field, and was an integral part of the success the program found during her tenure. She embodies everything that Birmingham-Southern represents. Linda is a leader, a great communicator, and an outward thinker. She is a driven individual with an insatiable desire to see others do well, and possesses a genuine passion for the game. I firmly believe that her addition to our program in a leadership role will propel us to the next level of success."
"I am very thankful for the opportunity to coach at my alma mater," Amaya said. "I love everything about BSC: the sense of community, the campus life, the people, and especially the soccer program. As a player here, my coaches always expected the team to play at a high level and continued to push us to get better both on and off the field. I am excited to work alongside Coach Pitek Clifford, knowing that she is as passionate about the game as I am. The history of this soccer program has laid a strong foundation for us to build upon. I'm thrilled to be a part of where we are heading. Forward, Ever."
