Women's Tennis defeats Oglethorpe, 8-1; Men lose 5-2
ATLANTA, Ga.--The Birmingham-Southern tennis teams took on conference rival Oglethorpe today in Atlanta, with the women winning 8-1 and the men falling 5-2.
The Panther women move to 8-2 overall and 3-1 in the Southern Athletic Association, while the men fall to 6-5 overall and 2-3 in the SAA.
The women were victorious at all but one singles spot, and all three doubles positions. Senior Raeann Lamere and junior Moya Moore combined to win 8-3 at No. 1 doubles, while junior Emily Holst and freshman Sara Cohen won at two doubles, also 8-3. Junior Terria Punturo and freshman Lindsey Farrell won at three doubles, 8-1.
Moore, Lamere, and Cohen picked up wins at Nos. 1, 2, and 3 singles, and Farrell and Punturo won at five and six singles.
In men's action, the Panthers won two of three doubles matches. At the top spot, senior Sawyer Voges and sophomore Brian Brandt won 8-0, and sophomore Ben Reardon and freshman Patrick Hire won in the third slot, 8-1.
In singles, Oglethorpe won four matches, while the other two were unfinished.
BSC returns home for its next few matches. The men will face The Citadel next Friday, April 12, at 1 p.m. Both teams will take on Centre, Saturday, April 13, at 9 a.m., and Sewanee, Sunday, April 14, at 10 a.m. at the BSC Tennis Complex.
