BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Birmingham-Southern women's tennis team defeated Millsaps 5-4 today to open Southern Athletic Association play at the newly-minted Ann Dielen Tennis Complex. The Panthers move to 5-2 overall and 1-0 in the SAA.
BSC picked up points at three singles, where sophomore Sara Cohen defeated Bianca Suarez (6-2, 6-1), four singles, where freshman Mary Evelyn Carroll defeated Laura Kebert (6-1, 6-4), and six singles, where sophomore Lindsey Farrell defeated Anna Brahce (6-0, 6-0). Carroll and senior Emily Holst paired up for a win at two doubles (9-8 (7-4)), and Farrell and senior Terria Punturo won at three doubles (8-3).
Carroll leads the squad with a 6-1 singles record, while Cohen/senior Moya Moore and Farrell/Punturo lead with 4-1 doubles records.
Prior to today's match, BSC's tennis facility was officially named to honor long-time coach Ann Dielen, who is in her 38th season with the program.
The team travels to Orange Beach, Fla., next weekend for spring break, and will face Transylvania on Friday, March 14, and Point University on Saturday, March 15.
