BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Birmingham-Southern volleyball team was picked to finish fourth in the SCAC Preseason Poll, as voted on by the league's head coaches.
The Panthers enter the 2011 season finally eligible for post-season play, both at the conference and national levels, as a full NCAA Division III member.
BSC went 25-11 last year, and returns 10 players to the court from last year.
"It is a great compliment to have been chosen pre-season number four in the tough SCAC," Head Coach Judy Green said. "Our team is very excited to enter this season with a chance to play for the SCAC title, and our focus remains simply to get better each day we hit the gym as a team. I have been encouraged by the effort I have seen in the gym so far and I only expect it will continue to get better."
The Panthers open the season this weekend at home, hosting the MacK Attack Tournament, Saturday and Sunday, featuring Stillman, LaGrange, Piedmont, and Huntingdon in round-robin play in both Bill Battle Coliseum and Bill Burch Gymnasium.
Colorado College was picked to win the SCAC this year, followed by Southwestern University and Trinity University, tabbed to place second and third, respectively.
