ATLANTA, Ga.—Senior Lauren Reibe and sophomore Meredith Lee earned the Southern Athletic Association's weekly volleyball awards, the league office announced today, as Lee was named Offensive Player of the Week, and Reibe is the Defensive Player of the Week.
Reibe, a setter from Daphne, Ala., not only anchored the Birmingham-Southern offense in its two home conference wins this week, but had double-doubles (assists-digs) in both matches. Against Sewanee on Saturday she recorded 28 assists and 11 digs, and against Centre on Saturday she posted 37 assists and 17 digs. For the week, Reibe averaged 10.8 assists and 4.67 digs per set.
Lee, an outside hitter from Montgomery, Ala., helped BSC win both its matches by leading the team in kills in both games, recording 12 against Sewanee and 15 against Centre. She averaged 4.50 kills per set while hitting .292 for the week.
"Both Meredith and Lauren had solid performances over the weekend," Head Coach Judy Green said. "Meredith continues to grow as a terminating outside hitter and is learning how to create scoring opportunities for herself. Lauren played the best defense of her career and she continues to impress in her maturity running our offense. Both are very deserving of these honors."
The Panthers now stand at 5-0 in the SAA and sit atop the conference standings. BSC steps out of league play today, traveling to face No. 6 Emory at 4 p.m. ET.
