BIRMINGHAM, Ala.–Huntsville native Laura Van Peursem will join the Birmingham-Southern volleyball program as a freshman for the upcoming 2013 season, Head Coach Judy Green announced today, as Van Peursem has completed her intent to enroll in the college this fall.
Van Peursem, a two-sport athlete who will also play basketball for the Panthers, is a senior at Randolph School in Huntsville, Ala., where she will graduate later this month. She was a four-year letterwinner in both volleyball and basketball for the Raiders, and was 2012 4A All-State Volleyball. She was also Volleyball All-Area in 2010, 2011 and 2012, and All-Region in 2011 and 2012. Additionally, she was named Volleyball Offensive MVP in 2010 and 2011, and helped lead the Raiders to the state final four in 2011 and 2012.
In basketball, Van Peursem was a four-time All-Area selection and a 2011 and 2012 All-Region honoree. She helped lead the Raiders to the 2013 regionals, and helped lead her AAU team to the national championship in 2012 and a fifth-place national finish in 2011.
"I am excited to welcome Laura to our BSC Volleyball family," Green said. "She is a talented student-athlete who brings some size to our front line. She has the potential to be a very dominant player for our program. The characteristics that stood out to me while recruiting Laura were her competitive nature and how driven she is to succeed in everything she does. She is a well rounded young person and I am excited to help her develop her volleyball ability."
