Panthers to face Millsaps in SAA Volleyball Championship first round

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Birmingham-Southern volleyball team travels to Rome, Ga., this weekend for the 2013 Southern Athletic Association Championship, hosted by Berry College.

Fifth-seeded BSC will face No. 4 Millsaps on Friday at 8 p.m. Eastern. The Panthers are 20-8 overall and 7-7 in the SAA, while the Majors are 16-15 and also 7-7 in conference play. The Majors won the tiebreaker by virtue of defeating BSC twice this season in conference matches; the Panthers notched a 3-2 non-conference victory against the Majors in the McAttack Bash on Sept. 7.

With a Friday victory, BSC advances to the semifinals on Saturday to face the winner of the match between No. 1 Berry and No. 8 Oglethorpe. Berry is the defending conference champion; this is the Vikings' second straight year hosting the championship as the top seed. A loss on Friday would put the Panthers into the consolation bracket with a game against the loser of the Berry/Oglethorpe match.

All games will feature live stats and live video, available at the tournament web page.
