Birmingham, Ala. – For the first time in program history, the Birmingham-Southern women's volleyball team won the Southern Athletic Association regular season title and the right to host the conference tournament November 8-10. BSC (22-5) finished 13-1 against league opponents and closed the regular season on a 10 match win streak.
The Panthers are 10-6 all-time at the SAA tournament. They have made a semifinal appearance in each of the past five years, and been in the championship match two years in-a-row.
Quarterfinal Matchup: #1 BSC (22-5) vs. #8 Oglethorpe (6-9) | Friday, November 8 at 5 p.m.
BSC has defeated the Stormy Petrels twice this season. Topping them 3-1 on September 21 and in straight sets 3-0 on October 13. The Panthers are 2-0 all-time against Oglethorpe in the postseason. Their last meeting was in the quarterfinals this past year. BSC won 3-0.
Sharing their side of the bracket and competing in the 7 p.m. match Friday night are fourth seeded Sewanee and fifth seeded Millsaps College. Sewanee has swept Millsaps in straight sets both times the teams met this season. All of the tournament matches will have live stats and video. Day passes are $5 for general admission ages 10 and up, and $3 for seniors, non-SAA college students (with college ID), and children ages 3-9. Children two and under are free, as well as, all students, faculty, and staff of SAA schools with their college ID. Programs will also be available for $5 at the door.
