Women's Cross Country Grabs Sixth at SAA Championship

ROME, Ga. – The Birmingham-Southern women's cross country team competed at the 2019 Southern Athletic Association Cross Country Championship on Saturday, placing sixth overall.

The Panthers were led by senior Marjorie Head (Columbiana, Ala./Shelby County HS), who claimed a spot on the All-SAA Second Team with a seventh place finish. Head completed the 6k in 23:36.36. This is the second straight year she has made the all-conference team.

Freshman Caroline Teal (Blountsville, Ala./Oneonta HS) was the second Panther to cross the finish line, coming in 44th. Senior Megan Rasmussen (Headland, Ala./Providence Christian School) also placed inside the top 50 at 48th and a time of 27:29.08.

Sophomore Mary Emerson Owen (Baton Rouge, La./Episcopal School of Baton Rouge) and junior Anne Lewis Simmons (Birmingham, Ala./Mountain Brook HS) finished back-to-back in 57th and 58th, respectively.

As a team, Birmingham-Southern completed the 6k in 2:14:52.30 total and with an average time of 26:58.46.
