Panthers Sweep 'Southern Invite in Season Finale

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Birmingham-Southern track and field saw a host of personal records at the 2020 'Southern Invitational in Krulak Stadium this weekend as both the men's and women's teams took first place.  The Panthers had 40 top three finishes to sweep their final meet of the year.  The women won by 88 points, while the men took first place by 65 points.

 

Men's Track and Field
BSC men won nine events en route to a 213 point total.  On the track, Stanley Pettus-Green (Salem, Ore./West Salem HS) took both the 100m and 200m dashes.  The 4x400m relay team of Beck Wilkes (Winfield, Ala./Winfield HS), Tony Parisi (Marietta, Ga./Pope HS), Glen Humphrey (Birmingham, Ala./Oak Mountain HS), and William Wideman (Marietta, Ga./Pope HS) crossed in 3:52.22 to earn first place.  And Griffin Riner (Trussville, Ala./Hewitt-Trussville HS) won the 400m hurdles in a time of 1:01.63, less than a second off his personal record.  He also won the high jump with a mark of 1.68m.

Other first place field finishes included Luke Ballard (Hoover, Ala./Hoover HS) in the javelin and Maurice Sutherland (Meridian, Miss./Northeast HS) in the triple jump.  Josh Tucker-Ellis (Birmingham, Ala./Ramsey HS) won the shot put with a personal record throw of 12.41m.

 

Women's Track and Field
The women won eight events and finished with 192 points.  Caroline Teal (Blountsville, Ala./Oneonta HS) took first place in both the 800m and 1500m races.  Alexus Lindsey (Holly Pond, Ala./Fairview HS) also swept her events, earning the top spot in pole vault and the 100m hurdles.  Jaida Bolden (Dacula, Ga./Archer HS) picked up two wins as well.  She finished with top marks in both the high jump and the long jump.  Bolden also set a new personal record in the triple jump to finish third.

Making the most of her track and field debut, Derienne Black (Madison, Ala./Sparkman HS) won the triple jump.  And Kamryn Bendolph (Madison, Ala./Columbia HS) rounded out the first place finishers, winning the 400m dash by almost four seconds.
