Birmingham, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern women's basketball team took on the Petrels of Oglethorpe for the first round of the SAA Tournament. After having a great season with finishing the regular season off in third place, the Panthers season have come to an end. Southern lost to Oglethorpe in the first round with a final score of 108-84.
BSC and Oglethorpe both came into today's game both ready to move on to the semifinals of the tournament. The Panthers led the first quarter 29-25. Oglethorpe came into the second quarter looking to make a comeback putting up 30 points in the quarter. Going into halftime the Petrels led 55-48. BSC came into the third quarter looking to regain the lead but Oglethorpe outscored BSC by eight points. The Petrels continued to hold the lead in the fourth quarter and take the game with a final score of 108-84.
Brooke Westhoelter led the Panthers in points scoring 22. Westhoelter added on four rebounds, three steals, and two assist.
Anna Beth Giles was dominate on defense picking up eight steals. She also contributed two rebounds and two assist.
Charlton Kelley held it down on the inside picking seven rebounds. Kelley added on one assist.
