Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

BSC FINISHES 2-1 AT USTA NATIONAL CAMPUS

ORLANDO, Fla.  – Birmingham-Southern women's tennis finished 2-1 at USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla. The Panthers played some great competition and fell in their first match against Hamilton, but came back to win the next two against Luther and Saint Ambrose. 
 
Match one: BSC fell early in the doubles play against Hamilton losing 8-4 in all three matches to Hamilton. The Panthers looked to come back in the singles play and put some numbers on the board. 

All singles fell to Hamilton College in straight sets. No. 1 Maddi Stewart fell to her opponent 6-2 in both sets. Phoebe Shapard fell 6-0, then 6-1 in the No. 2 matchup. No. 3 matchup with Jenna Prater fell 6-1 in both sets, while No. 4 Sarah Rushing loss by retirement. No. 5 and No. 6 Isabell Lambert and Anna Cate Weeks followed and both fell to Hamilton.

Match two: After their loss to Hamilton, the Panthers were hoping to turn things around and put up a win in their column. The No. 1 duo of Maddi Stewart and Phoebe Shapard were the only Panthers to win in doubles play, taking their match 8-1 over Luther's No. 1 duo. 

BSC was down 2-1 going into singles play and were hoping to comeback for a win. The Panthers took five out of the six singles matches to secure the victory 6-3. No. 1 singles Maddi Stewart won her match in straight sets, both ending in 6-1 victories. No. 2 Phoebe Shapard and No. 3 Jenna Prater won their matches in tiebreaker sets. To finish off the victory, Sarah Rushing in the No. 4 spot and No. 5 Isabella Lambert took their matches in straight sets.

Match three: Birmingham-Southern was looking for another win to push their tournament record into the positives. Once again the Panthers doubles play proved to be quite impressive, sweeping all the doubles matchups. No. 1 duo of Maddi Stewart and Phoebe Shapard and No. 2 duo of Jenna Prater and Sarah Rushing both won their matchups 6-3. The No. 3 doubles matchup ended in a victory for the Panthers with a win by default.

Holding a 3-0 lead, the Panthers were very optimistic going into their singles play. No. 2 Phoebe Shapard won in straight sets over her opponent, 6-1 and 6-3. All three singles matches for No. 3 Jenna Prater, No. 4 Sarah Rushing and No. 5 Isabella Lambert all won in straight sets that ended 6-0 and 6-2.
