INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The NCAA Division III Baseball Committee has announced the 60 teams that will compete in the 2022 NCAA Division III Baseball Championship. Birmingham-Southern was named the No. 1 seed in the Lynchburg Regional, hosted by Lynchburg University.
After receiving the automatic bid to the NCAA Championships by winning the Southern Athletic Association Tournament Championship, Birmingham-Southern was awarded the top seed at the Lynchburg Regional site. The Panthers will head into the Championships with a 38-8 overall record and take on Earlham College in their first game. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m. eastern/10 a.m. central time on Friday, May 20 at Bank of the James Stadium in Lynchburg, Va. The NCAA Division III Baseball Championship format is laid out below.
Four teams will compete at fourteen regional sited and two teams will compete at two regional sited. The four-team regionals will use a double-elimination format and the two-team regionals will play a best-of-five series. Forty-one conference champions qualified automatically.
Winners of the sixteen regional tournaments will qualify for eight, best-of-three series at the super regionals, Friday-Saturday, May 27-28. The eight super regional winners will then qualify for the pool play double-elimination championship at Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Friday-Tuesday/Wednesday, June 3-7/8, 2022.
