BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Sothern men's soccer team kicked off their home season with a stalemate against the Eagles.
The Panthers began the match defensively with Giacomo Magrini tallying two saves in the early minutes. However, they were first on the scoreboard after a penalty kick goal from senior captain Trey Hines. After several shot attempts, the Eagles were able to match that goal.
Looking to take back the lead, the Panthers went on the offensive. They were quickly rewarded with a goal from Will Pucek off of a Trey Hines assist. This goal would round out scoring for the first half.
A heavy downpour of rain did not stop either team's offense from scoring in the second as an assist from Christian Hernandez allowed for Coleman Jennings to net the Panthers third goal. This was followed almost immediately by another goal from the Eagles to bring back to a one-point match.
After a third and final goal was scored by the Eagles, the Panthers held out hope to jump ahead in the final minutes, but were unable to pull through despite some solid looks at the net. As time wound down, Giacomo Magrini was able to make two critical saves which kept the match even.
