PANTHERS EARN PAIR OF SHUTOUTS ON SPLIT MATCH DAY

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Birmingham-Southern men's tennis team took two 9-0 shutout victories on the day. The Panthers faced Belhaven on their home courts in Birmingham before travelling to Montgomery to take on Huntingdon. 

Match one: Birmingham-Southern picked up three wins in doubles play to start off the match. Court three was the first to finish with the duo of Ryan King and Tom Smith defeating their opponent 8-2. Hallet Green and Sam Tolbert finished 8-2 and the No. 1 duo of Wil Dotson and Tanner DeBardelaben took theirs 8-3.

Tom Smith was the first to earn a point in singles play for the Panthers, taking his opponent 6-0 and 6-1. Every court finished in straight sets with no more than 3 points being given up in a set.

Match two: The second match of the day started off the same for the Panthers, taking all three doubles matches. Court two finished first with Ryan Pearlman and Davis Eastham taking the win 8-0. Ryan King and Tanner DeBardelaben took the victory on court one 8-1. The No. 3 duo of Drew Castleberry and Walker Jackson took the final point for BSC in doubles play. 

Tanner DeBardelaben took his opponent in 6-0 straight sets to earn the first point of singles play. Ryan King took court one 6-0 and 6-1, Walker Jackson took his opponent 6-2 and 6-0 on court five. Courts three, four and six all also finished in straight sets for the Panthers, earning the shutout for the second time that day.
