BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Birmingham-Southern men's tennis team defeated Wallace State CC and Gadsden State CC to open the 2024 season on Monday. The Panthers defeated Wallace State, 8-1 while beating Gadsden State 6-3. 

Match 1 vs. Wallace State

'Southern won all three doubles matches to take a 3-0 lead to start the day. No. 1 duo Hallet Green and Sam Tolbert won by a commanding score of 8-1 while No. 2 duo Tanner DeBardelaben and Eli Ingleson dominated with an 8-2 win. No. 3 partnership Ryan King and Reed Martinson wrapped up the doubles sweep with an 8-4 win. 

The Panthers won five of six singles matches to complete their 8-1 win. Wallace State won the first singles match in the No. 6 position, but BSC went on to win the next five. No. 1 Hallet Green secured the first win for Birmingham-Southern with a 6-4, 6-3 victory. Tanner DeBardelaben then won in dominant fashion only giving up one set to his opponent. No. 2 Sam Tolbert had an excellent start of the season with a 6-1, 6-2 win while Ryan King and Eli Ingleson rounded out the wins for BSC.

Match 2 vs. Gadsden State

The Panthers won two of the three doubles matches against Gadsden State with the one loss coming in a forfeit due to the team also competing against Wallace State. No.1 duo Ryan King and Walker Jackson collected one win for the Panthers by a score of 8-5, and No. 2 duo Davis Eastham and Callum Searle cruised to an 8-2 win. 

BSC won four of six singles matches with one of the defeats coming in a forfeit as well. No. 3 Davis Eastham got the first singles win for 'Southern by only surrendering two sets to his opponent. No. 2 Callum Searle then took care of business with a 6-3, 6-2 win while No. 1 Ryan Pearlman won his match 6-3, 6-1. Walker Jackson took a singles win after a battle in the final set to earn the Panthers their sixth win on the day.
