BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Birmingham-Southern women's basketball team fell at home to Hendrix after the Warriors drained 13 of 18 threes on the night.
Both team's got off to good starts offensively, but the Panthers had the edge up 13-12 roughly halfway through the opening quarter. After a 15-15 tie with 2:58 remaining in the first, the Warriors went on a 6-0 run to close the half.
After three three-pointers in the opening 10 minutes by Hendrix, the road side continued their hot shooting in the second period. The Warriors took control with a 30-19 lead led by two more threes. Despite the run by Hendrix, BSC kept the game within striking distance and went into halftime down 10.
Needing a push, BSC's
Lauryn Towns provided a spark with two consecutive threes to start the second half. However, Hendrix continued their strong shooting with two three-pointers in response. After their third deep ball of the quarter, Hendrix grabbed their largest lead, 51-36 with 5:09 to go in the third period. After still trailing by 15 with less than two minutes to go in the quarter, BSC closed out the half with four straight points thanks to a
Kyler Woods and-one on a tough drive.
Heading into the final 10 minutes, the Panthers hoped to produce a quick run. However, the Warriors once again hit a three-pointer to start the quarter to go up 14. The Panthers trailed by double-digits throughout the period until
Sheraton Foster knocked down two free throws to bring her team within nine with 3:07 remaining. With little time remaining, BSC needed a few stops and scores, but the Warriors impressively kept their nine-point lead with 1:27 left. Hendrix then hit a dagger three on the ensuing possession to solidify their win on the night, 75-61.
