MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - The #7 seed Birmingham-Southern women's basketball team fell to #2 seed Berry on the road Sunday in the SAA Quarterfinals.
Despite facing an early deficit, the Panthers remained resilient, with
Sheraton Foster leading the charge, contributing nine of BSC's 16 points in the first quarter.
Maya Cable emerged as an offensive contributor for the Panthers, tallying six points in the second quarter, including a perfect 4-for-4 performance from the free-throw line. The Panther defense continued to apply pressure to the Vikings, keeping the deficit within seven points as the teams headed into halftime with a score of 35-28.
However, the momentum shifted in favor of the Berry offense as the second half commenced. The Vikings capitalized on scoring opportunities, extending their lead to 20 points with just three minutes remaining in the third quarter.
Birmingham Southern fought through the final quarter of play led by Ajailah Ogiemwonyi earning a team-high six points in the final period. Despite their best efforts, the Panther defense struggled to contain the Berry offense who added 20 points to the scoreboard in the final 10 minutes of the game.
'Southern was unable to find momentum during the final half of their hard-fought battle on the road, ultimately falling to Berry 73-53 in the Quarterfinals of the SAA Tournament.
