ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The Birmingham-Southern men's tennis team competed against their second straight nationally ranked opponent in North Carolina Wesleyan on Sunday. The Panthers were defeated 8-1 but played some promising tennis against the 26th ranked team in Division III.
The Battling Bishops took all three doubles matches, but the Panthers did not go down without a fight. No. 1 duo
Hallet Green and
Sam Tolbert won four games on their opponent while No. 2 duo
Tom Smith and
Ryan King won three games.
In singles matches, No. 6
Tom Smith was the lone winner on the day for the Panthers. Smith fell in the first set 6-1 but was dominant the rest of the day with 6-1 and 1-0 wins in sets two and three to earn the Panthers a win. No. 2
Sam Tolbert battled by winning four games on his opponent in set two.
