BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Birmingham-Southern women's tennis team collected their first SAA win of 2024 with a dominant performance against Hendrix.
No. 3 duo
Anna Cate Weeks/
Anna Marie Bentley got the first point of the day for 'Southern with a comfortable 8-2 win in doubles. Hendrix then won the No. 2 doubles match to even the team scores until No. 1
Phoebe Shapard and
Blakely Valdez went down to the wire and came out on top with an 8-7 win to clinch the doubles series for the Panthers.
After tight doubles matches, BSC was in full control in singles. All six Panthers won their matches with No. 3
Abbie Bateh and No. 6
Anna Marie Bentley both closing out wins with 6-0 wins in set two. The No. 1 match was close the whole way, but
Blakely Valdez came out on top for her fifth singles win of the season. No. 2
Phoebe Shapard and No. 5
Anna Cate Weeks both went to tiebreaker sets, but 10-5 and 10-7 wins respectively gave the Panthers the edge and led to the singles sweep.
