BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern men's basketball team fell to Millsaps College 100-72 in its first Southern Athletic Association game of the season on Sunday.
The Panthers trailed for all but two minutes of the game and struggled to find shot consistency against the Majors. BSC shot 45.6 percent from the field for the game compared to Millsaps' 53.2 percent. Free throws were also a problem for the Panthers as they hit just 13-of-21 for the game.
Junior forward Christian Stewart (Irondale, Ala./Shades Valley HS) led the Panthers in scoring in the loss, dropping 18 points. Junior guard Paul Fitzgerald (Fort Valley, Ga./Lamar CC) and sophomore guard Jason Morrison (Atlanta, Ga./Snead State CC) both finished with 10 points.
With the loss, Birmingham-Southern falls to 4-8 overall and 0-1 in the SAA. The game represented the final game of the decade for BSC. The men's basketball program amassed a 177-99 record in the 2010s.
BSC will be back at home again for its next game, a conference matchup against the Colonels of Centre College. The game is set to tip at 8 p.m., following the conclusion of the women's game.
