ATLANTA, Ga. – Roanoke erased a 7-2 deficit and then held off a Birmingham-Southern comeback to earn a 12-10 win Sunday in the 3N2 Softball Event hosted by Emory University.
The Panthers (5-4) trailed 2-1 before scoring six runs in the third to hold a 7-2 lead. Danielle Rucker had a two-run triple while Bethany Fronk and Joanna Jernigan also had run scoring hits to highlight the inning.
Roanoke scored five in the fourth and sixth innings to take a 12-7 lead into the bottom of the sixth.
BSC cut the deficit to 12-10 with two runs in the bottom of the sixth and a run in the bottom of the seventh. Elizabeth Ballew's double to right field scored Chelsea Fernandez and Deanna Creps in the sixth and Alyssa Statham singled home Brittany Berkopec in the seventh.
Berkopec, Creps, Ballew, Jernigan and Statham had two hits apiece while Ballew and Rucker each had two RBI.
Kelly Higbie improved to 4-0 as the pitcher of record for the Maroons, allowing seven runs on six hits with one strikeout while Stephanie Clark picked up the save with three strikeouts while giving up three runs on seven hits.
Fronk (4-3) had three strikeouts and gave up 12 runs on 13 hits over seven innings as the pitcher of record for BSC.
