INDIANAPOLIS – The 2018 NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Championships kicked off on Wednesday morning. Birmingham-Southern swimmers competed in four events on day one.
Sophomore Nico Medina (Hollywood, Fla./American Heritage HS) got things started for BSC, competing in the men's 500 freestyle. Medina placed 15th in the morning's preliminaries, earning him a spot in the evening finals heat. In the finals, Medina finished in 13th with a personal best 4:28.35 in the event.
Freshman Patrick Dunne (Mobile, Ala./McGill-Toolen Catholic HS) and sophomore Noah Young (Clinton, Miss./Clinton HS) were next up for the Panthers, both competing in the men's 200 IM. Dunne finished 36th in the morning session with a time of 1:53.67. Young followed right behind him in 37th with a mark of 1:53.77 in the prelims.
Birmingham-Southern also participated in the 200 medley relays. The men placed 19th after a preliminary time of 1:35.38. The women came in 30th with a prelim mark of 1:50.12.
Birmingham-Southern's student-athlete will continue their journey at the National Championships on Thursday.
