GREENSBORO, N.C. – Birmingham-Southern junior student-athlete Becca Erwin (Duluth, Ga./Duluth HS) finished third in the women's 200-yard freestyle final at the 2019 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships on Thursday.
After finishing fifth with a time of 1:49.63 in the 200-yard freestyle preliminaries Thursday morning and earning a spot in the championship final, Erwin improved on her previous time and captured her second trophy of the championships with a third-place finish, tapping the wall in 1:48.85.
Erwin finished fourth in the 200-yard freestyle last season. It is her second straight season as an All-American in the event and her second All-American nod this season after taking second in the championship 500-yard freestyle Wednesday night.
Erwin, Anna Jordan Luth (Pensacola, Fla./Booker T. Washington HS), Mary Beth Ronne (Athens, Tenn./McMinn County HS) and Mary Beth Stewart (Daphne, Ala./Daphne HS) also competed in the 200-yard freestyle relay preliminaries to start the day and came in 30th with a time of 1:38.12.
The Panther relay team will compete again on Friday in the 800-freestyle relay, the lone event of the day for Birmingham-Southern student-athletes.
