SAA Championships: Men in First After Day One

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern men's and women's outdoor track and field teams are off to a great start that the 2017 Southern Athletic Association Championships Friday. Eight medals went to Panthers on day one, with four winning conference titles.


Michael Snow (Trussville, Ala./Hewitt-Trussville HS) and Kameren Morgan (Bowie, Md./St. Alban's School for Boys) defended their 2016 titles to repeat as conference champions. Snow took the shot put and Morgan was first in the hammer throw.


Chris Roberts (Huntsville, Ala./Huntsville HS) earned the 10K title in a personal record time.  And Timothy McOmber (Montgomery, Ala./Montgomery Catholic Prep) won the Steeplechase by nearly 30 seconds.


The Panthers had several athletes qualify for the track finals tomorrow. Karmin Shute (Fayetteville, Ga./The Walker School) and Rebecca Bryant (Decatur, Ga./Marist School) recorded the top two prelim times in the 400.  Erin Davis (Orange County, Calif./Santa Ana Valley HS) took first in her 100 and 200 heats with the third fastest prelim times in each.


Jamal Watkins (Hampton, Ga./Dodge City CC), Jalon Hollie (Hoover, Ala./Spain Park HS), and Damian Mitchell (Maplesville, Ala./Maplesville HS) posted the top three times in the 100 prelims.  Watkins also had the fastest 200 prelim time. 


Amir Sims (Orlando, Fla./Union Grove HS) won his prelim heat in the 400 and posted the second fastest time.  And Andrew Triplett (Hermitage, Tenn./Father Ryan HS) and Cedric Campbell (McDonough, Ga./Dutchtown HS) earned the top two prelim times in the 400 hurdles.
