MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern men's and women's track and field teams saw some big finishes at the Montevallo Falcon Classic this weekend. The men's team finished fourth overall while the women tied for fifth, topping programs from all three NCAA divisions and the NAIA.
"I was very encouraged by our entire team performances and effort this weekend," said Head Coach Kenneth Cox.
It was a good weekend for throws on the men's side. Kameren Morgan (Bowie, Md./St. Alban's School for Boys) set a personal, meet, and program record in the hammer throw. His distance of 63.00m was good for first place, and beat his own record that he set earlier this year. Luke Ballard (Hoover, Ala./Hoover HS) and C.J. LeCroy (Isabella, Ala./Isabella HS) went 1-2 in the javelin throw. Ballard took first with a toss of 60.42m.
John Jacobs (Albany, Ga./Deerfield-Windsor HS) earned second in the long jump with a new program record 6.92m mark. And Mike Benning (Chattanooga, Tenn./Baylor School) took third in the 110m hurdles in a personal best time of 16.03.
On the women's side, Marjorie Head (Columbiana, Ala./Shelby County HS) had an exceptional weekend. The junior won the 10K in a personal record time of 41:59.59 and also took second in the 3K steeplechase with a season-best time of 12:18.35. Alexus Lindsey (Holly Pond, Ala./Fairview HS) rounded out top performers with a second place finish in the pole vault. She cleared a season-best 2.92m.
BSC returns home on March 30 for the Hilltop Classic. It will be senior day for the Panthers at Krulak Stadium.
