Women's Basketball routs Oakwood at home, 77-39

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Birmingham-Southern women's basketball team moved to 2-0 on the young season Monday evening with a 77-39 victory against Oakwood University in Bill Battle Coliseum.

The Lady Ambassadors scored the first basket of the game for what would be their only lead of the game. BSC proceeded to score 17 straight points to pull up 17-2 and never looked back, leading by 23 at the half, 39-16. The Panthers used several more small scoring runs in the second half to build on their lead, eventually winning by 38.

Junior Diamond Elston and sophomore Ashley Curry led the Panthers with 13 points apiece, and senior Elizabeth Bromirski had 11 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Freshman Jasmynn Batts also led with five assists.

For Oakwood, Christy Harris led all players with 25 points, while Simona Nappier led on the boards with 11 rebounds.

BSC shot 46.7 percent (28-60) from the field, 38.5 percent (10-26) from three-point range, and 47.8 percent (11-23) from the free throw line. Oakwood struggled offensively, shooting only 21.3 percent (10-47) overall, 15.4 percent (2-13), and 68 percent (17-25) at the line.

The Panthers out-rebounded the Ambassadors 50-31, and committed 16 turnovers, seven less than Oakwood.

BSC travels this weekend to face Piedmont in Demorest, Ga., Saturday, Nov. 23 at 2 p.m. Eastern. The Panthers will return home to host Maryville on Tuesday, Nov. 26 at 6 p.m. in Bill Battle Coliseum.
