SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – The Birmingham-Southern women's basketball team opened play at the UC Santa Cruz Thanksgiving Classic with a 67-64 win against Wheaton Saturday night. BSC (6-1) fended off a second half push to earn the win.
Derienne Black (Madison, Ala./Sparkman HS) led with a team-high 23 points, making 10-of-18 from the floor. This was her second consecutive 20+ point performance, and fourth this season. Emilee Olsen (Marietta, Ga./Lassiter HS) netted a double-double with 14 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. And Misa Fujii (Sunnyvale, Calif./Notre Dame HS) rounded out the Panthers in double-figures with 13 points of her own, respectively.
BSC will face the host Banana Slugs tomorrow. Tip off against UC Santa Cruz is set for 5 p.m. CT
