MARYVILLE, Tenn. – The Birmingham-Southern women's soccer team fell in its 2019 season opener on Friday. The Panthers were defeated 5-0 at Maryville College.
Maryville opened up the scoring in the sixth minute and added another two goals in the opening 10 minutes to take a 3-0 lead into halftime.
The Scots then tacked on two more goals in the last 45 minutes to take the final 5-0 lead and the win.
Birmingham-Southern managed 10 shots with four shots on goal in the match. Junior goalkeeper Blakley Jones (Tuscaloosa, Ala./Holy Spirit Catholic HS) ended the game with seven saves.
The Panthers will play again on Saturday, August 31 against Piedmont in Maryville, Tenn., at 11 a.m. CT.
