Birmingham, Ala. – Birmingham-Southern volleyball defeated Oglethorpe University 3-0 Friday night in Bill Battle Coliseum to advance to the Southern Athletic Association tournament semifinals. Top seeded BSC (23-5) will face fourth seeded Sewanee at 6 p.m. Saturday night.
Ansleigh Dailey (Daphne, Ala./Bayside Academy) finished with a double-double of 23 assists and 10 digs in the win. Milea Ray (Alabaster, Ala./Pensacola State) led all attackers with a match-high 12 kills, hitting .500. Julia Denby (Gulf Breeze, Fla./Gulf Breeze HS) finished right behind her with 11 kills, respectively.
Defensively, BSC dominated, holding Oglethorpe to a -.018 hitting percentage for the match. Caroline Johnson (Lucas, Texas/Lovejoy HS) led the backline with a match-high 21 digs. And Rebecca Erwin (Duluth, Ga./Duluth HS), Leah Nielsen (Birmingham, Ala./Oak Mountain HS), and Denby tied with a match-high five blocks each.
This is the sixth straight year the Panthers have appeared in a semifinal and first time since 2015 they have faced Sewanee in the tournament. BSC is 3-0 all-time against the Tigers in the postseason. The Panthers have defeated Sewanee twice this year. The first time was 3-1 at Sewanee on October 6 and then at home 3-0 on October 19.
