Former UAB All-American and seven-year ATP Tour veteran PaulRosner enters his seventh season as head men's tennis coach atBirmingham-Southern.
Rosner was a three-time NCAA Doubles All-American at UAB duringhis playing career from 1991-95. He and doubles partner, VaughanSnyman, spent most of their junior and senior seasons ranked amongthe top five doubles teams in the country, ranking as high as No. 3and ending up with a No. 7 final ranking after their senior season.Rosner was also ranked as high as No. 16 in the nation in singlescompetition in 1993. He was on the 1995 National Indoor Doublesrunners-up tandem and, with Snyman, won the title in 1994. Theyalso won the National NCAA Clay Court Tournament in 1994 andadvanced to the semifinals of the NCAA Tournament in 1994 and1995.
After UAB, Rosner joined the ATP Tour where he produced anoutstanding resume, particularly in doubles play. As a doublescompetitor, he competed in 20 Grand Slam events and achieved aworld ranking as high as No. 58 with partner Brandon Coupe. In1998, Rosner and Coupe won the Bologna International Series tourstop. He and partner Jason Weir Smith knocked off Goran Ivanisevicand Ivan Ljubicic in the 2000 Brighton England International Seriestour event. Rosner was also a part of doubles tandems that beat JimCourier, twice, and Lleyton Hewitt, and that advanced to the Roundof 16 of Wimbledon in 1998.
Rosner also coaches youth tennis as a part of Le Petit Tennis'Birmingham branch. The Boca Raton, Fla.,-based company introducestennis to 3½ - to 11-year-old children by working througharea schools and recreation program.
Rosner is married to the former Leigh Higginbotham of Pinson,Ala. They are the parents of two daughters: Nora Claire, born inDecember 2003, and Addison May, born in October 2007.
