Toby Wilcox was named head coach of the men’s and women’s swimming and diving program on August 24, 2011. He spent the 2011-12 season recruiting student-athletes to the new program, which began competition in 2012-13.
The Panthers have won 16 Southern Athletic Association team titles under Wilcox, with the men earning their ninth consecutive in 2023. Entering his 12th season at the helm, he has coached 121 individual conference champions, 57 conference relay champions, and taken 35 student-athletes to the NCAA Division III National Championships. During his tenure, there have been 13 Southern Athletic Association swimmers of the year, 7 SAA divers of the year, and 11 SAA newcomers of the year.
Wilcox has been named SAA Coach of the Year five times in his career. The most recent was in 2021 for leading the women’s team to their fifth consecutive team title and sweeping swimmer and newcomer of the year.
Before coming to the Hilltop, he was the head coach at NCAA Division I Evansville for nine seasons, from 1988-97, and was named Midwestern Collegiate Conference (MCC) Coach of the Year three times (1990-91, 1995). He coached the first swimmer to achieve "B" standard at Evansville, and both his men's and women's teams maintained grade-point averages over 3.00. Wilcox coached 24 athletes to individual conference titles, and three MCC Swimmers of the Year.
Wilcox is a University of Evansville graduate, where he attended on a swimming scholarship and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in History in 1985. He was MCC and Heartland Collegiate Conference MVP in 1984, team MVP in 1983 and 1984, and served as team captain.
He currently resides in Mountain Brook, Ala. with his wife Cathy, son Cole, and daughter Reghan.
