Football Finishes Season 7-3 with Senior Day Win

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern football team posted its most wins since 2012 after topping Southern Athletic Association rival Millsaps College 30-20 Saturday afternoon in Krulak Stadium.  It was senior day for BSC (7-3), who finished in third place in the league with a 6-2 record.  This season marked the most SAA wins in program history.

Junior Robert Shufford (McKenzie, Ala./McKenzie HS) finished the season with his 9th consecutive 100+ yard rushing game.  He ran for 247 yards and a touchdown in the win.  This is his fourth game this season at over 200 yards.  The effort gave him the single-season SAA rushing record at 1,834 yards.  Shufford already owned the BSC single-season rushing record.  He also sits in first place for single-season rush attempts, average yards per rush, rushing yards per game, and second in touchdowns.  He is currently third all-time in career rushing yards.

BSC outrushed and outpassed the Majors.  Junior Trevor Oakes (Somerville, Ala./Hartselle HS) finished with a game-high 186 passing yards and a touchdown after completing 11-of-19.  Senior Cole Marell (Bonifay, Fla./Holmes County HS) had a big day, putting up 124 receiving yards with a touchdown.

Juniors Myles Myers (Alpharetta, Ga./Johns Creek HS) and Garrett Stevens (Social Circle, Ga./Eastside HS) led the Panthers defense.  Myers earned nine tackles, seven solo, with a tackle for a loss of two yards.  Stevens also grabbed a team-high nine tackles, three solo, earned a 1.5 tackles for a loss of two yards, and picked up an interception.

BSC concluded its season with many team records broken in rushing, passing, and scoring among others.
