BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Birmingham-Southern women's basketball opened its 2020-21 season with a 113-97 win over Covenant College Wednesday afternoon to start the 2020 Richard Dardenne Memorial Classic in Bill Battle Coliseum. The Panthers (1-0) were one point away from tying the single-game scoring record set back in 2001. This was the second time in program history BSC has hit triple digits.
Six Panthers finished in double-figure points individually.
Charlton Kelley (Clarksville, Tenn./Davidson Academy) led the pack with 16 points off .889 shooting percentage.
Alexia Hood (Birmingham, Ala./Alcorn State University) was right behind her with 14 points of her own.
Cassady Quintana (Orlando, Fla./William R. Boone HS),
Josie Wannemuehler (Birmingham, Ala./John Carroll Catholic HS), and
Summer Killin (Birmingham, Ala./John Carroll Catholic HS) netted 12 points each, respectively. And
Imani Thompson (Tuscaloosa, Ala./Holy Spirit Catholic)
earned 11.
Anna Beth Giles (Gadsden, Ala./Glencoe HS) led with a game-high nine rebounds and team-best six assists.
The Classic continues tomorrow as the Panthers take on Piedmont College at 1 p.m.
