BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Birmingham-Southern football team added another win to the win column after defeating Sewanee 49-0 at home on Saturday, Oct. 2
Robert Shufford opened up the scoring on the Panthers first possession. Shufford rushed in from 25-yards out to put the Panthers up 7-0 early in the first quarter. The Panthers quickly scored again on their second possession of the game on a 71-yard catch and run by
Branden Rew from
Trey Patterson. The Panthers were rolling 14-0 with 8:20 left in the first quarter.
The Panthers would extend their lead to 21-0 after
Trey Patterson threw his second touchdown of the game to
Owen Phillips. The Panthers would be 21-0 at the end of the first quarter.
On the Panthers first possession of the second quarter Patterson connected with
Gentry Neese for a 73-yard touchdown to go up 28-0.
The running game was dominate in the win as the Panthers rushed for four touchdowns and 383 yards.
Robert Shufford and
Jon Lewis eached rushed for two.
The Panthers took a 35-0 lead into halftime.
For the second straight game the offensive line did not allow a sack. The Panthers carried their momentum from the first half to the second half and dominated the second half. Birmingham-Southern would score 14 points in the third quarter to go up 49-0 after three quarters.
Neither team would score in the fourth quarter and BSC would start 1-0 in SAA conference play with a 49-0 win over Sewanee.
