BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Birmingham-Southern out gained Rhodes by almost 400 yards en route to their seventh straight win. The Panthers are 7-0 for the first time since 1934.
The Panther offense started slow scoring just seven points in the first quarter and punting three times. As the game progressed the offense slowly found their rhythm.
In the second quarter
Branden Rew caught his fifth touchdown of the season from 24-yards out. The score put the panthers up 14-0.
Zach Ford would then knock through a 31-yard field goal to give the Panthers a 17-0 lead. They carried that lead into halftime time with them, not allowing the Lynx to score.
The Lynx started with the ball coming out of half and marched down the field. The drive was six plays for 75 yards spanning almost four minutes of game-time. The Panthers went three-and-out on their first drive of the second half. The Lynx looked to go down and score again but the Panther defense held strong not allowing Rhodes to gain a yard on their second drive.
The defense swung the momentum back towards BSC and the offense used it going on a 12-play, 75-yard drive spanning almost six minutes. The drive was capped off by a five-yard touchdown run from
Robert Shufford. Birmingham-Southern took a 24-6 lead into the fourth quarter.
The Panthers dominated the fourth quarter outscoring Rhodes 17-0. An 80-yard touchdown pass from
Trey Patterson to
Tavion Fleming extended the BSC lead to 31-6. On the very next drive
Jon Lewis broke free for an 81-yard touchdown run, stiff-arming tacklers away and putting the Panthers even further ahead. The last score was a 17 yard field goal to push the score to 41-6.
