ATLANTA, Ga. – The Birmingham-Southern volleyball team split the day in Atlanta, taking a 5 set victory over Washington & Lee University and a loss to #11 Emory.
Match one: The Panthers started off behind dropping the first two sets in very close scoring. They lost the first 25-23 and the second in extra points at 26-24.
The Panthers jumped out to an early lead in the third set at 8-2 over the Generals. Washington & Lee fought back to make the score a closer 9-6, still in the Panthers favor. A kill from Leah Nielson and two aces from
Abby Dunford pushed the Panthers on a five point run that extended their lead 14-6. Birmingham-Southern kept their lead the rest of the set, pushing to win it 25-15.
Keeping up with their momentum, Birmingham-Southern nabbed a large lead over the Generals in the fourth set at 10-3. The Panthers pushed all the way to point 20 keeping the Generals at a large length with a 20-7 lead. Birmingham-Southern had set point at 24-14 before the Generals went on a seven point run, holding the Panthers at set point the whole time. The Panthers ultimately got the fourth set victory at 25-21.
The fifth set was a back and forth game between the Panthers and Generals. The final set was tied at 13-13 before an error from the Generals gave Birmingham-Southern match point. A kill from
Emily Buhl ended the match with a 15-13 victory in the fifth and final set.

The first set started off as a close game with points going back and forth between the teams. The Eagles went on a six point run to take the lead at 16-9 and never gave up after that. The Panthers were only able to capitalize on three more points before Emory took the set 25-12.
The Eagles once again jumped out to an early lead, this time at 9-1 in the second set. The Panthers were able to slide back in and lessen the lead at 16-9, still trailing the Eagles. Birmingham-Southern held #11 Emory at set point twice before they eventually fell 25-16.
Birmingham-Southern took the lead for the first time in the third set. The Panthers lead the Eagles at 12-10 before the Eagles went on a 10 point run to take the lead back at 20-12. The Panthers fell in the final set 25-15.
