JACKSON, Miss. - Birmingham-Southern rushed for a a program single-game record 65 times for a 504 yards in its 49-7 win over the Millsaps Majors today (Nov. 13). The rushing attack was lead by senior
Tavion Fleming who led the way with 26 carries for 205 yards and two touchdown.
The scoring got started early and often for the Panthers.
DJ Albright took the opening kickoff return for 50 yards setting up the BSC offense with a short field. Birmingham-Southern rushed the ball seven times for 35 yards to take an early 7-0 lead. After the defense forced the Majors to go three-and-out, they quickly scored again taking just four-plays to go 60 yards. The score put the Panthers up 14-0.
On the next Major possession the Panthers forced a three-and-out and got the ball back with great field position. Starting at the Millsaps 31-yard line the Panthers again took just four plays to score and extend their lead to 21-0. BSC finished the first quarter up 21-0.
Before the Majors got on the board the Panthers scored again,
Tavion Fleming ran in for his first touchdown of the day to cap off a five-play, 45-yard drive. Millsaps was able to stop the Panther offensive attack late in the second quarter when they got their lone score from a pick-six. Birmingham-Southern went to halftime up 35-7.
The second half was more of the same for both sides. The Panthers scored two touchdowns in the third quarter to take over the game 49-7. The Panther defense held strong and did not allow the Majors to get comfortable all day. Neither team scored in the fourth quarter and BSC would win the game 49-7.
