MOUNT BERRY, Ga. – In the first round of the Southern Athletic Association conference tournament the Birmingham-Southern volleyball team swept the Millsaps Majors in three straight sets.
Emily Buhl played a great match with 9 kills and a .474 hitting percentage.
The first set started off pretty even between the Panthers and Majors with it tied at 7-7. It continued back and forth up until the Millsaps was leading at 15-14. The Panthers went on a four point run to take the lead at 18-15, they dropped one point before going on another run. The next five point run was powered by a kill from
Alyssa Coats and back to back aces from
Ansleigh Dailey to push the lead to 23-16. A big ace from
Alyssa Coats finished the first set off for the Panthers 25-17.
The Panthers started off the second set with an 8-5 lead over the Majors. Millsaps fought back to tie it up at 10-10 and again at 13-13. Birmingham-Southern took back the lead 15-14 after back to back kills from
Gigi Fields. Another kill from
Gigi Fields, an ace from
Lily Williamson and a kill from
Ansleigh Dailey powered a four point run to make the lead 21-16. The Panthers had set point at 24-17, but the Majors held them at set point three times before
Alyssa Coats ended it with a kill at 25-20.
The Panthers once again took the lead in the beginning of the third set at 10-4. With kills from
Gigi Fields and
Leah Nielsen, Birmingham-Southern extended their lead to 17-9 over the Majors. Millsaps tightened up the lead at 17-13, but the Panthers were able to keep going keeping their lead 20-15. Millsaps was not done fighting and made it a very close set at 22-21, but the Panthers took the next three to end the set 25-21.
