BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Birmingham-Southern football suffered its first loss of the season to Southern Athletic Association rival Berry College Saturday night when the Vikings scored a touchdown with 11 seconds left to secure the 26-23 win.
Robert Shufford (McKenzie, Ala./McKenzie HS) continued his streak after netting a game-high 132 rushing yards and a touchdown.
Trevor Oakes (Somerville, Ala./Hartselle HS) threw for 147 yards and a two touchdowns. His longest of the day was a 34 yarder to
Wells Smith (Jackson, Tenn./University of Jackson) who also took up punting duties. He kicked for 161 yards, longest at 50 yards and averaged 40.2 yards per punt.
The defense was paced by
Garrett Stevens (Social Circle, Ga./Eastside HS). He finished with a game-high nine tackles, six solo, including one tackle for a loss of three yards.
Cameron DeArman (Russellville, Ala./Russellville HS) finished right behind him with eight tackles, six solo, and a sack for a loss of six yards. And
Wes Guilford (Atlanta, Ga./Stockbridge HS) grabbed an interception and ran it back 26 yards.
BSC (1-1) is on the road next Saturday at Centre College. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
