BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – No. 8 Birmingham-Southern baseball opened at home with a pair of wins Saturday. The Panthers (5-1) fended off No. 25 Hendrix for the 5-2 win and then closed the night with a 17-7 win over Centre College in seven innings.
Cole Steadman (Birmingham, Ala./Briarwood Christian) finished the day with a team-best four hits, including two doubles. He scored three times and knocked in four runs.
Luke DePiero (Atlanta, Ga./Walker HS) hit .600 with four runs off three hits and two walks, and had two RBI.
Robbie Lively (Helena, Ala./Southern Union) and
Andy Hammond (Oxford, Ala./Oxford HS) earned the wins on the mound. Hammond threw complete 7.1 innings, striking out a team-best four batters against Centre.
The Panthers conclude their series against Hendrix tomorrow. First pitch is scheduled for 2:45 p.m.
