DANVILLE, Ky. – No. 18 Birmingham-Southern softball opened Southern Athletic Association season with a two-game sweep of Centre College Saturday. BSC (14-2, 2-0 SAA) outscored the Colonels 13-1 on the day, winning game one 5-1 and then ending the second in five with an 8-0 decision.
This marked the Panthers' third shutout of the season.
Lauren Keplinger (Pinson, Ala./Wallace State CC) allowed just three hits in her complete game shutout win.
Annie Clayton (Eufaula, Ala./Eufaula HS) threw a complete seven in game one and finished with a team-high eight strikeouts.
Kaylyn Chapman (New Castle, Pa./Shenango HS) led the hitters, going 3-for-4 with three runs and four RBI.
Alyssa Fowler (Moody, Ala./Moody HS) also earned three hits on the day, including two doubles and four RBI.
BSC finishes the series tomorrow at noon.
