Panthers Battle Berry to 0-0 Tie in Semifinals, Come Up Short on PKs

DANVILLE, Ky. – Second-seed Birmingham-Southern women's soccer battled three-seed Berry College through 110 minutes and six penalty kicks Friday afternoon in the Southern Athletic Association Tournament Semifinal. The Vikings advanced on PKs, 5-4. It is the second draw of the season for BSC (9-2-2, 4-1-1).
Panther goalkeeper Blakley Jones (Tuscaloosa, Ala./Holy Spirit Catholic HS) collected seven saves, including two in each half and three in the second overtime to force the shootout. Jones was named to the SAA All-Tournament Team.
Berry had 16 shots in regulation to Birmingham-Southern's five. Both teams each had a shot on goal in the first overtime, but Berry controlled the final 10 minutes with three shots on frame. 
Sydney Barrow (Birmingham, Ala./Indian Springs HS) led BSC with two shots on goal. Hannah Daoust (Mobile, Ala./McGill-Toolen Catholic HS) and Abby Kay Choate (Tifton, Ga./Tift County HS) each had one. 
Abby Branham (Cullman, Ala./Cullman HS), Kirby Hopkins (Gurley, Ala./Huntsville HS), Choate and Madeleine Ash (Franklin, Tenn./Franklin HS) each made PKs in the shootout.
BSC (9-2-2, 4-1-1) will close the 2021 spring with a regular season April 24 at 1 p.m. when it hosts Piedmont College at Goldfarb Field at Breylson Soccer Park.
