Panthers Split Season Finale DH at Berry

MOUNT BERRY, Ga.  – Birmingham-Southern baseball rallied after a tough start to the weekend at Berry College, as the Panthers split the final double-header of the season at William R. Bowdoin Field on Saturday afternoon. The Vikings took game one of the twin bill, 11-3, before BSC (22-13, 14-10 SAA) rebounded to take a resounding 10-2 victory in the regular season finale.

Jack Fleming (Suwanee, Ga./Lambert HS) was one of four Panthers with two hits in game one, and he also belted a homer - his third of the season. He added two hits in game two, including a double, and he also walked and scored two runs in that game. Along with Fleming, Luke DePiero (Atlanta, Ga./Walker HS), Noah Best (Carrollton, Ga./Villa Rica HS), and Alfredo Granier (Atlanta, Ga./Holy Innocents Episcopal) also had four hits on the day, Best had three total RBIs, DePiero knocked in a pair, and Cole Steadman (Birmingham, Ala./Briarwood Christian) launched a solo homer in game two.

On the mound, Ricky Harrison (Baton Rouge, La./Runnels HS), struck out two in game one, but he was charged with the loss. In game two, Troy Bearden (Gulf Shores, Ala./Wallace-Dothan) earned the win.

The games mark the end of the regular season for the Panthers, who will qualify for the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Baseball Championship, April 22-24, at State Mutual Stadium in Rome, Ga. - home of the Rome Braves, the High-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves. Matchups and game times for the double-elimination tournament will be announced this weekend by the SAA office.
