ROME, Ga. - Birmingham-Southern College Baseball defeated Centre College, 6-1, Friday at State Mutual Stadium to advance to the Southern Athletic Association Baseball Championship Game.
Seeking the fourth SAA Tournament title in program history, the Panthers (24-13) advance to the SAA Championship game Sunday at noon ET.
Drew Love (Birmingham, Ala./Calhoun CC) and
Will Evans (Peachtree City, Ga./Starrs Mill HS) each had two hits to lead BSC.
Cole Steadman (Birmingham, Ala./Briarwood Christian),
Jack Fleming (Suwanee, Ga./Lambert HS),
Ian Hancock (Roswell, Ga./Pope HS),
Will Lantis (Marietta, Ga./Pope HS) and
Brian Williams (Marietta, Ga./Lassiter HS) each had one hit apiece. Lantis, Hancock, DePiero and Granier each had one RBI. Fleming had two.
The Panthers scored a run in each the second, fifth, sixth and seventh innings to build a 4-0 lead. Similar to Thursday, Fleming strengthened Southern's lead with a two-run home run in the eighth, his fourth dinger in the last eight games. He had an eighth-inning grand slam the day before.
For the second-straight day, the Panthers' starting pitcher threw a complete game.
Tristan Harvin (Dothan, Ala./Houston Academy) (4-1) struck out seven of the 35 batters faced through nine innings. Averaging 12 pitchers per inning, he allowed five hits, and walked three. His only run allowed came in the top of the ninth inning.
