BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern men's soccer team moved one game closer to first place in the Southern Athletic Association with its 2-1 win over Oglethorpe University Friday afternoon.
Coleman Jennings (Vestavia Hills, Ala./Vestavia Hills HS) put the Panthers on the board first just over 11 minutes into the match. He stole a pass and shot it from 10 yards out on the left side. After two 30 minute rain delays, Oglethorpe found the equalizer three minutes into the second half.
Christian Hernandez (Ft. Payne, Ala./Ft. Payne HS) scored the game winner in the 76
th minute. He headed in a pass from
Pirmin Blattmann (Mountain Brook, Ala./Mountain Brook HS) for his fifth goal of the season.
Jack Hunt (Newnan, Ga./The Heritage School) picked up the win after grabbing a game-high five saves.
BSC (8-3, 4-1 SAA) now hosts Berry College on Sunday for a chance at the SAA regular season title. Match time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
