HIGH POINT, N.C. - Birmingham-Southern College completed its sweep of No. 2 Washington & Jefferson with a 9-2 win Saturday morning to make the Presidents the third team bounced from the NCAA DIII Baseball Regional at Truist Point Stadium.
Three teams remain as The Panthers (27-15) will play Sunday in an elimination game against No. 4 seed Lynchburg at 10:30 a.m. CT. The winner will meet No. 1 seed Salisbury at 2 p.m. In the region final. The "if necessary" game is scheduled for Monday.
Originally BSC was scheduled to play Saturday afternoon, but weather forced the game to be pushed to Sunday.
Cole Steadman (Birmingham, Ala./Briarwood Christian) led BSC with a 3-for-4 day at the plate.
Ian Hancock (Roswell, Ga./Pope HS) was 2-for-3 with a double, triple and two runs scored.
Hancock opened the scoring with an RBI triple to center and scored on an
Alfredo Granier (Atlanta, Ga./Holy Innocents' Episcopal) ground out to give the Panthers a 2-0 lead in the second inning.
Noah Best (Carrollton, Ga./Villa Rica HS) made it a five-run game with a three-run home run in the fourth inning.
BSC added four runs in the eighth, including an RBI ground rule double by
Brian Williams (Marietta, Ga./Lassiter HS), who then scored on a wild pitch, and a two-run single by Steadman.
Ricky Harrison (Baton Rouge, La./ Runnels HS) pitched six shutout innings for the win, allowing four hits, two walks and striking out six.
Oliver Livingston (Decatur, Ala./Decatur HS) threw 2.1 innings in relief and allowed one run of two hits.
John Paul Dobbs (Florence, Ala./Florence HS) closed out the ninth, allowing a run off three hits.
