MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - The Birmingham-Southern volleyball team took down No. 7 Berry College to end their undefeated season. The Panthers won the match 3-1.
Set one started off as a battle between the Panthers and Vikings. Both teams going back and forth between points until the Panthers had enough of the Vikings 9-7 lead. The Panthers went on a 6 point run to take back the lead and gain some momentum. Kills from
Lily Williamson,
Ansleigh Dailey and
Emily Buhl as well as three errors from the Vikings, gave the Panthers a 13-9 lead. The battle continued on until
Emily Buhl ended the set with a kill, 25-19.
Birmingham-Southern started off the second set with a 2-0 lead. Errors from No. 7 Berry gave the Panthers an even better 7-3 lead. The Vikings pushed back and went on a 6 point run to make it 9-7 and put themselves ahead for the first time in the set. Back to back kills from
Kate Powell and
Ally Mildenberger, and another Viking error, tied the set at 16-16. A kill and two service aces from
Kennedy Dickens boosted the team to a 21-18 lead. The Vikings fought back to tie it 23-23. The set ended with two attacking errors from Berry, the Panthers take it 25-23.
The Vikings came out strong in the third set, starting it off with a 5-0 lead.
Kennedy Dickens was able to sneak a kill in to end the Vikings run, the Panthers still down 8-2. The Vikings had a match high 16 kills in the third set which pushed them to the 25-9 win.
The fourth set once again was a battle between the Panthers and Vikings, all the way up to Berry's 6-5 lead. More errors from Berry and a kill from
Ansleigh Dailey pushed the Panthers up 9-6. Not giving up their momentum, back to back kills from
Kennedy Dickens and
Alyssa Coats, and another kill from
Leah Nielsen gave the Panthers a 13-7 lead on the Vikings. The Vikings fought back to make it 23-20, the Panthers still leading, but a kill from
Gigi Fields brought the Panthers to match point. The Vikings held them off for one more point until a service error lost them the set 25-21. The Panthers take the 3-1 victory, ending Berry's win streak.
